Phase 1: Area Association
Chuck's design for the new addition joins the main family room from one side and the back garden from the other. "We wanted to get to the yard quickly," states Peabody. The switch from new to old is effortless and convenient. "Acquaintances who visit have no idea this room was a remodeled addition."
Phase 2: Comfort and Longevity With Style
Janey and her colleague Elizabeth Surfroot designed a dual-function seating area. The footstool will work as a coffee table but has the coziness of a chair. There is more than enough space for the little ones to hang out on the floor while gaming or watching tv. A basic wool rug conceals dirt and resists wear and tear. Upholstered chairs fulfill the same function -- attractive sturdiness. If the white chenille gets spoiled, it can most likely be repaired. The timelessness of the furnishings justifies the expenditure on well-built, top quality objects.
Phase 3: Multipurpose Storage Space
Janey and Chuck made sure the Smiths had specified spots for their electronics. Functional builtin items also add architectural allure. The flat screen tv and Blu-ray player are stored on either side, and the other cabinet can hold gaming systems.

Natural light plays a big role throughout this room a result of the numerous windows. Olive surfaces and harmonizing textiles fill the area with warmth. Simple halogen illumination in the ceiling, along with floor lights in three corners, create functional task lighting.
